Effect of the Correlational Attributes on Mere Exposure in Concept Formation
نویسنده
چکیده
This study examined the effect that correlational attributes that promote concept formation gives to mere expsure effect for prototypes. Using the mere exposure (e.g., Zajonc, 1968) and the concept formation paradigms (e.g., Barsalou et al., 1999), Matsuda and Kusumi (2002, 2003) elucidated three points concerning. First, it was found out that concept formation with repeated exposure builds a prototype and is based on specific events. Second, prototypical stimuli that integrate the dimensions of each individual case are preferred if the value of that dimension is weighted. Third, the prototype of the concept exists independently of exact exemplars. In those studies, Matsuda and Kusumi used the same combination of values for each dimension in their experiment’s study phase. However, given the importance of correlational attributes in concept formation (McRae et al., 1999; Wattenmaker, 1993), the investigation of this effect is warranted. In order to examine whether the correlational attributes increase the mere exposure effect or not, in this study, the unit of repetitive presentation was changed from an image unit to a dimension unit.

Relationship between Perceived Impact of Terrorist Attacks, Resilience, and Religious Beliefs on death anxiety among Student in Islamabad
Objectives: The present research was carried out to explore the perceived impact of terrorist attacks in terms of dread, lack of control and extent of exposure in death anxiety. It was also intended to explore the moderating effect of resilient attributes, and religious beliefs were investigated. Methods: Sample consisted of 359 students (directly perceived =159, and in-directly perceived =20...
متن کاملThe mere exposure effect depends on an odor’s initial pleasantness
The mere exposure phenomenon refers to improvement of one's attitude toward an a priori neutral stimulus after its repeated exposure. The extent to which such a phenomenon influences evaluation of a priori emotional stimuli remains under-investigated. Here we investigated this question by presenting participants with different odors varying in a priori pleasantness during different sessions spa...
متن کاملA Preliminary Investigation into Geometry, Represented by Parameters, and its Effect on Function and Manufacturing Attributes
This paper demonstrates a preliminary investigation of geometry, function and its relation to DFX principles, namely DFM (Design for Manufacturing). This is the starting point for research on the development of an expert system that assesses design goals along DFX principles in a feature-based CAD environment. There is a need for a deeper level of understanding of the relationship between geo...

In general, Policy-based approaches play an important role in the management of web services, for instance, in the choice of semantic web service and quality of services (QoS) in particular. The present research work illustrates a procedure for the web service selection among functionality similar web services based on WS-Policy semantic matching. In this study, the procedure of WS-Policy publi...
متن کاملValues in Health Policy – A Concept Analysis
Background Despite the significant role “values” play in decision-making no definition or attributes regarding the concept have been provided in health policy-making. This study aimed to clarify the defining attributes of a concept of value and its irrelevant structures in health policy-making. We anticipate our findings will help reduce the semantic ambiguities associated with the use of “valu...
